Our raft building sessions take place on our on-site pond which sits right beside our Clubhouse Cafe and changing rooms. This activity is great value good old fashioned fun for groups of all types and ages, particularly school and youth groups, stag and hens, and as part of corporate team-building.
The ingredients are very simple….you and your group of at least six people, some plastic drums, long wooden poles and lots of lengths of rope….and of course the water. Your group will be split into two or three teams, depending upon overall numbers, and then under guidance from your instructor each team gets to design and build their raft. Is it going to be something fairly standard, or do you fancy trying something a little different? What’s going to float best? What’s going to prove fastest on the water?
Once built it’s time to take to the water and test it for ‘seaworthiness’. With all participants kitted out with buoyancy aid, helmet and of course a paddle each, the weight of all team members on the raft and a few test paddles will soon give the answer. If needs be then there will be time and opportunity for any technical adjustments. Then the competitive spirit takes over and the teams are off and racing – check out the video below – to see who gets bragging rights as top raft builders and racers. Our changing rooms, heated in cooler weather, are right beside the pond so as you can get out of any wet clothes straight after the session ends, ready for well earned refreshment in the Clubhouse Cafe.
Price per person is from £23 upwards depending upon number of participants. Always book ahead to avoid disappointment. Please also check out how your participation in this activity contributes to Craggan Outdoors’ support of our chosen charity, Water for Kids.
