New in 2016, Craggan Outdoors was proud to introduce this fast-growing and addictive sport to the Highlands. Whilst the origins of the game aren’t clear, it is known that footgolf was first formalised in The Netherlands in 2008, & was introduced to the UK a few years later. The game is growing rapidly, with there now being over 160 courses across the UK, up from just 10 courses back in 2014. The course at Craggan was just the fifth in Scotland, & the first to bring the game north of the Central Belt.
Following the same concept as golf, but with bigger balls, players kick the football from tee to football-sized hole in as few shots as possible. Our 9-hole course has a mix of par 3, 4 & 5 holes ranging from 84 yards to 185 yards in length, & making good use of the existing dips, curves & slopes the golf course. Play round twice for a total round of 18 holes at par 72 over 2,244 yards.
Footgolf is a ‘pay & play’ activity, so no bookings required / taken – except for groups who are advised to pre-book, particularly if wanting ball hire – so just come along, pay your money (cash only), & off you go. Prices are £12 for 18 holes for adults, & £9 for under 16s, or get a day ticket for £15 & £12 respectively & play as much as you like. Bring your own ball, or hire for £2. Suited to everybody & anybody that can kick a ball, & looking to enjoy some easy competitive fun. Recommended footwear is football trainers. Boots with studs or blades are not permitted. Why not come along & give a new sport a try? We reckon you’ll be hooked.
