You may not have come across a golf course like Craggan before. It's a 14 hole course of 1678 yards to suit every type of player from the complete beginner, right up to the most accomplished. With a par of 42, it may not be long, but while being short enough for the complete beginner, and younger and older visitors to enjoy, it also offers a good challenge for the more regular and experienced golfer.
Set beside the River Spey 1 mile south of Grantown, and just 15 minutes from Aviemore, the course offers magnificent views of the Cairngorms, with four of the five highest mountains in Britain being visible, and the Cromdale hills, site of a famous battle between Government forces and the Jacobites in 1690.
The course varies from the 7th hole, the longest on the course at 209 yards, with a fairway rising around forty feet to a hilltop green, to the 12th hole which whilst just 51 yards, is far from being the easiest on the course. The greens are all of excellent quality, being cut daily during the season, as we take great pride in producing the best possible putting surfaces. There are a few 'inviting' water hazards on the course, which surrounds a trout fishery, where osprey can often be seen looking for a meal. You will often see roe deer and hares on the course, up to six different species of duck, and many other birds.
Our green fees for 2012 are great value at £15 per day for adults midweek, and £17.50 per round, £25 per day at the week end. Under-16’s are £9.50 per day at all times. We have half sets of hire clubs available at the clubhouse on a first come first served basis at £7.50, including some left-handed and junior sizes.
We welcome all visitors, particularly children and families. A round can take as little as one and a half hours if you are quick, and even with young children it won’t take more than a pleasant morning or afternoon. We operate a 'pay and play' system which means that it is not necessary to book a tee time, but please be aware that there are occasional Club and open competitions, so it can be worth checking competition dates on the Craggan Golf Club website before setting out.
We also offer an excellent 18 hole putting green adjacent to the golf course of around 500 yards length. This is particularly popular with families, and even very young children can be part of the fun. Rates are great valure at £3 for adults and £1.50 for under-16’s.
Expect a warm welcome in our licensed Clubhouse Cafe, which is generally open daily, 10am to 6pm, from April to the end of October, and also on occasional evenings when competitions are on. Choose from a range of freshly prepared food, or just relax with freshley brewed pot of tea or mug of Douwe Egberts coffee, or of course something stronger. The Clubhouse Cafe is also available for hire for functions and events, with further details being available on that page of this website. We also welcome group bookings for golf and/or catering, with discounted group rates being available if paid in advance. The course is also ideal for corporate and charity days, so please contact us if this may be of interest.
